The loss leaves the home side above the bottom three on goal difference with two games to play, and the three teams below Den Haag are all within two points.

The club's last two matches are against Heerenveen and Vitesse, and they will likely be in relegation danger until the final day.

Feyenoord's win, meanwhile, keeps alive their hopes of qualifying for Europe as the club moved into eighth place and is now just one point behind seventh- placed NAC.

A scoreless first half gave way to an explosive final 30 minutes, with Den Haag's Timothy Derijck putting his team ahead from Richard Knopper's corner kick in the 62nd minute.

However, the visitors responded with a pair of goals from Jon Dahl Tomasson in the next 12 minutes to go ahead.

Diego Biseswar played provider on both goals for the Dane, taking is total to eight on the season, but Knopper pulled Den Haag back level with a low free kick that kissed off the post before finding its way into the back of the net.

The teams were only level for one minute though, and Makaay made a good run off the kickoff and finished off the move to set up a nervous final two games for the hosts.

League-champions AZ Alkmaar began their victory lap on Sunday with a 1-1 draw at third-placed Ajax as Jeremain Lens scored a first-half goal before AZ went down to 10 men with Stijn Schaars being sent off.

Luis Suarez could have equalized in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, but he failed to convert. However, the Ajax striker was given a second chance from the spot and made it count with three minutes left.

Groningen and Willem II played to a 0-0 draw at Euroborg Stadion while Vitesse handed Utrecht a 6-1 defeat that severely damages the European hopes of the club.
